Online Microsoft Office replacements have been cropping up on the internet on a monthly basis. The most popular among them has been Google Docs. But there are several others who are making leaps in functionality just under the radar. Zoho is the most prominent among that group and have recently announced an offline version of Zoho Writer (Online Word Processor) which is aimed directly at MS Word.
What is Zoho?
Zoho offers a full range of online office productivity suite and include a variety of applications.

What is Zoho Writer?
According to Zoho the Witer is a tool to create documents, edit them your way, and share with anyone
- Access from anywhere - Access, edit, share documents from anywhere.
- Create and edit documents your way - Create, edit and re-format documents using our WYSIWYG editor.
- Collaborative editing of documents. - Allow multiple users to work on a document simultaneously.
- Load your existing documents - Import Microsoft Word (DOC), OpenOffice text (ODT & SXW), HTML, RTF, JPG, GIF PNG files.
- Share, don’t attach - Share documents with your friends or publish them for public view.
Zoho may not be the best known brand out there but the offline file editing support announcement on Zoho blog was picked up by TechCrunch.

Yeah, who needs a mature and trusty aplication like MS Word when there is a crap like Zoho…

Zoho Writer will not be a match for MS Word, OO.o Writer or ThinkFree Writer until it allows for endnotes and footnotes.

John, Zoho has a lot of shortcomings. But it is making significant progress than its competitors in the same amount of time. If it keeps up its development schedule it is likely to surpass OO and ThinkFree in the next year or so.
