World’s Thinnest Notebook: Apple’s MacBook Air – Features and Flaws

Jan 16th, 2008 | By Shamim | Category: Hardware, Reviews

macbook-airIf you thought HP or Dell was making thin notebooks then think again. Apple has been secretly developing the ultra-thin MacBook Air. This laptop re-defines thin and lightweight notebooks tipping the scale at 3 pounds and less than an inch thick. This 13 inch notebook packs a punch covering most features that users expect. And it delivers all that power in a sexy new form.

Features

A few of the features listed on Apple Blog:

  • LED backlit display
  • Built-in iSight
  • Ambient light sensor for keyboard
  • Multi-touch trackpad - Move a window by double-tap and move. Rotate a photo by pivoting your index finger around your thumb
  • 80GB drive as standard, 64GB SSD as an option
  • 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo as standard, 1.8 GHz as an upgrade
  • 45w MagSafe
  • 1 USB 2.0 port
  • Micro-DVI
  • 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1/EDR
  • 5 hour battery life
  • 2GB memory as standard

Flaws

Gizmodo pointed out that there are a few flaws in the MacBook Air that are apparent. Like the iPod the MacBook Air won’t be easy to open. This means it will be difficult to upgrade or even replace RAM, hard disk or battery. Either remain happy with the stock MacBook Air or ship it back to Apple to be upgraded. The 5 hour battery life might sound great now but in a few months if any part of the notebook dies it will be a bitch to replace.

How Do I Get It?

This is not a concept Apple MacBook and it won’t keep you waiting. Specially if you have been wanting a new Mac after seeing the largest collection of Get Mac ads. Hop over to the Apple store and pre-order it today for $1799. It will be for yours to enjoy in a couple of weeks.
