NSA Wants To Cripple Online Privacy Once And For All
Jan 18th, 2008 | By Shamim | Category: Internet, WTF, privacy
National Security has come to mean less and less privacy for the general public. Now NSA under the façade of protecting the nation wants to sift through the entirety of the internet to fight terrorism. According to a scathing Wired report America’s top spy, Michael McConnell, is requesting access to any and all web-pages, emails, instant messages, pictures and anything that might be found on the internet. All of this without the need for a warrant.
From Wired:
Presumably using unsupported stats like that, in May 2007 McConnell convinced President Bush that a massive cyber-attack on a singe U.S. bank would be worse for the economy than than the deadly terrorist attacks of September 11, the article reports. In response, the NSA developed a mind-boggling, but still incomplete, plan to eavesdrop on the internet in order to protect it.In order for cyberspace to be policed, Internet activity will have to be closely monitored. Ed Giorgio, who is working with McConnell on the plan, said that would mean giving the government the authority to examine the content of any e-mail, file transfer, or Web search. “Google has records that could help in a cyber-investigation,” he said. Giorgio warned me, “We have a saying in this business: ‘Privacy and security are a zero-sum game.’”
The story has also been picked up by Wall Street Journal which reports McConnell acknowledges in order to accomplish his plan, the government must have the ability to read all the information crossing the Internet in the United States in order to protect it from abuse. Congressional aides tell The Journal that they, too, are also anticipating a fight over civil liberties that will rival the battles over the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. … McConnell, a South Carolina native, also reveals that he fancies himself a fabulous dancer.

He’s retarded, all that will do is hurt the US economy and make people hate the government even more. Only through freedom will we continue to be safe. I would rather have the problems associated with too much freedom (i.e. terrorism) than the problems associated with no freedom (having the government controlling everything).

OK, but we hackers will need to eavesdrop on all government and corporate communication networks in order to protect them from “bad things”. After all, “We hackers have a saying in this business: ‘Government privacy and corporate security are a oxymorons.’”
Where are the elected officials like Chris Dodd, Ron Paul & Dennis Kucinich (the guys with some cojones to speak their mind) to fire back at these fools when we need them? I guess we need more than 3 of them and they can’t all be allowed to run for President at the same damn time…
They get too distracted and the scumballs in government get away with this kind of crap while the public sleeps or watches whatever the Britney/Lindsey/Paris or other mediawhore is doing in front of the cameras.
I totally agree Jonas, there should be a group of people that would hack into the government and just make all the information it keeps secret available to the public.

They have been doing this for sometime now. I visited the NSA site last year and they put several devices on my pc which I had to remove.

even i agree to this fact that there should be a group of hackers who would hacck the government’s database and show the people that what is goin on there in real.
