Software crawling with bugs and missed patches is getting increasingly familiar these days. Seeing the need for reliable software testing market uTest has launched their highly innovative business model. As reported by TechCrunch uTest is marketing themselves as a marketplace between software companies and individuals who want to test (and hopefully break) software and get a piece of the dollar-pie. Large corporations such as Microsoft and Adobe have so far enjoyed the large beta-testing community who try out alpha or beta release software for no cost. uTest is about to change that equation by making this a paid practice.
Community driven uTest will be only as good as its user base who will actually test the software. Without a sound testing crowd the model will fall flat on its face. The quality of the tester will depend largely on the payout given for finding bugs and also the quality of software being tested. Their community pyramid depicts the testers well and almost all companies will try and reach the Professional Testers with their software. Not much else has been released by uTest in regards to incentive programs. But if uTest want to attract the elite testers they should include some kind of recognition program in addition to the payouts.
