Yahoo! Live: Broadcasting Your Meaningless Existence

Feb 15th, 2008 | By Shamim | Category: Internet, Video, Yahoo!

Yahoo! Live a new service from the big Y! is an attempt in to the live-blogging industry. Real time life-blogging has been around for a little over a year and has attracted a very small community around itself. Sites such as Justin.tv and a few others have pioneered this art but it has not had much interest from the internet giants or the mainstream media. Yahoo Live is the first attempt by a mainstream internet portal to invest in life-blogging er.. live-blogging.

What is Yahoo! Live?

Yahoo! plans to promote this service as a means to “connect with your fans in real time” for publishers. They do a good job of promoting the Yahoo! Live service but they fail to demonstrate what sets them apart. The Yahoo Live blog says … ” There is something intangible about a live performance – an excitement that you can’t replicate in pre-recorded format. Broadcast a performance, interact with your fans with video and chat, embed your broadcast anywhere - it’s all possible on Y! Live.” Before you start off with your webcam to record and broadcast your impression of King Kong the product team has a warning which describes the service as a ” limited capacity release, so bear with us as and we may reach our limits in periods of high traffic”.
