Future of the Internet: Farmers
Aug 7th, 2008 | By Shamim | Category: News, WTFPS. Be warned, this is a cynical take on a Mozilla Labs video about the next generation web browser.
In the year 3008 when most of the human population have either moved to Mars or plugged in to the Matrix or transformed into pure energy what will happen to the internet. The Net has given rise to a whole new industry and transformed communication and modern economy. How will the internet survive without humans to blindly follow links and watch LOL cat videos? Well, going by the explanation of Mozilla Labs, English speaking farmers will be the new ‘always connected’, tech savvy generation.
The video shows a female farmer (they DO exist) who is surprisingly technology aware will communicate over web browsers and talk about graphs and such with other farmers. I am not quite sure why phones have become obsolete. But chatting and ‘collaborating’ on rainfall data seems to be the most important issue here. What would wow these farmers? Not robot harvesting machines, or jetpacks or magic farm crop which grow on their own. The farmers will be amazed with the ability of browsers to create graphs with tabular, structured data from websites. When no more graphs can be compared they can swipe their fingers on, what looks to be a, white iPhone and go ride tractors and other farm equipment. I hope for their safety in handling large and dangerous farm equipment, the vehicles have cruise control.
Watch in amazement. The video is described as “Aurora is a concept video exploring one possible future user experience for the Web, created by Adaptive Path as part of the Mozilla Labs concept series.”
